I walked out my door today, and I saw the newspaper. The headline in black They say there's a man on the loose he'll try to stab you in the back. He's about average build and if you ever tried you'd know him by sight Or maybe not. There's not telling if he'll come right through your door or your window or maybe through your garage. Yeah, there's a killer on the loose x4 (At this moment we have officially started a murder investigation) So anyways I went about my day, not really caring what I've just seen But then I made the grand mistake of looking in the mirror There was the knife, there was the blood Could I be the killer? I look in the paper But the picture is gone, the picture is gone My picture is gone Yeah, there's a killer on the loose x4

about

I decided to make this album while looking through old project files and coming across unfinished ideas that inspired me. Some of the ideas were as old as four years. They were made long before I had any idea how to produce a track or use music theory, but they were good! I found several good starts or nearly finished songs that would never see the light of day because I had never completed them. I also saw many ways that the knowledge I've gained over the years could improve these songs and really make them into something special.

The idea behind this album was uncovering "lost artifacts," and giving old ideas a new chance. "Loose" and "Tehu" were nearly unchanged, and much of the instrumentation was taken directly from the DAW they were original created on. I polished and arranged them the best I could, but I felt that they were strongest without adding any fancy synths or FX. Other tracks, like "Pop #1," "So Strange," and "Pop #2," changed dramatically, while still maintaining the aesthetic of their origins. Oftentimes I felt like I was just sampling from their ancestors, creating something entirely different than I had expected. It was interesting to me seeing what songs good felt staying mostly as they were, and what others inspired completely new ideas.

"God Loves Gay" and "Outroduction" are two songs that took nothing from old ideas. The sounds from "God Loves Gay" were originally going to be at the end of "So Strange," but I felt that it would make the song too long. "Outroduction" was something I had in mind from the beginning. I wanted to use the sounds of birds chirping and other ambient noises combined with some soft music. I wanted it to sound like an Album Leaf track.

Thanks to all the collaborators, and you for reading / listening to me! I also want to thank Dosh whose album "The Lost Tapes" is fantastic and also an album born of nearly forgotten sounds.
